Silvia Peppoloni, ricercatrice dell’Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), è la vincitrice del Distinguished Service Award 2026, conferito dalla Geological Society of London (GSL).
Il prestigioso riconoscimento, istituito nel 1998, viene assegnato ogni anno a geoscienziate e geoscienziati che si sono distinti per il significativo contributo offerto allo sviluppo delle geoscienze e al rafforzamento della comunità scientifica internazionale.
Fondatrice, già segretaria generale e attualmente presidente della International Association for Promoting Geoethics, Peppoloni si è distinta per il suo approccio pionieristico nella ridefinizione e diffusione delle geoscienze, attraverso l’integrazione di conoscenza scientifica, responsabilità sociale e sostenibilità ambientale. Inoltre ha guidato con autorevolezza collaborazioni scientifiche internazionali, favorendo la creazione di strutture e iniziative che hanno posto la geoetica al centro del dibattito scientifico globale.
Il premio riconosce a Silvia Peppoloni anche il suo forte impegno nella promozione di valori quali diversità, equità, inclusione e accessibilità, nonché il sostegno dato a ricercatrici e ricercatori nelle fasi iniziali della loro carriera.
La cerimonia di premiazione si terrà il 17 giugno presso la Burlington House, sede della GSL, a Londra. (aise)
Silvia Peppoloni, researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), is the winner of the 2026 Distinguished Service Award, conferred by the Geological Society of London (GSL).
The prestigious award, established in 1998, is presented annually to geoscientists who have distinguished themselves through significant contributions to the development of geosciences and the strengthening of the international scientific community. Founder, former Secretary General, and current President of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics, Peppoloni has distinguished herself for her pioneering approach to redefining and disseminating geosciences by integrating scientific knowledge, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability.
She has also authoritatively led international scientific collaborations, favoring the creation of structures and initiatives that have placed geoethics at the center of the global scientific debate. The award also recognizes Silvia Peppoloni for her strong commitment to promoting values such as diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, as well as the support given to researchers in the early stages of their careers.
