Robert Savino, Suffolk County Poet Laureate Emeritus and member of the Order Sons & Daughters of Italy Celebrated Authors, co-featured with Carmelina Zitarosa, a first-generation Italian American poet & teacher at Jack Jack’s Cafe in Babylon.
To celebrate Italian Heritage & Culture month, Carmelina introduced six Italian Honor Society students from Commack HS to read the Italian translation of poems from No Distance Between Us – The Next Collection (edited by Robert Savino and James P Wagner; translated by Monica Barba; published by Local Gems Press), as Carmelina and Robert read in English.
From the 67 poems by Italian American Poets of New York State included in this collection, six poems were selected by the Italian Honor Society and read in English & Italian translation as part of our Italian Heritage Month Poetry Celebration.
