In the beautiful setting of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, in New York City, on June 8th, at the yearly Conference of Presidents of Italian American Organizations, Gilda Battaglia Rorro Baldassari was honored by the distribution of copies of her successful memoir “Gilda, Promise Me”, published by Idea Press. The books were offered by the President of the Italian Heritage Commission, Dr. Bob DiBiase.
A discussion of the book followed its distribution and signing by the author.
Matilda Cuomo, former New York State First Lady and mother of New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, asserted that Gilda’s story should be known and asked for 7 copies to give to all her family members, Governor included.
The Hon. Francesco Genuardi, Consul General of Italy, who was the guest speaker at the convention, also spoke about the book and its value on showing both the success of Italians in America and the need for Italian Americans to study Italian language and culture, urging the Presidents to promote Gilda’s wonderful story.
