Alitalia, Ita’s predecessor, had a 49% shareholder by Etihad for 2 years before the shareholder walked away from that agreement. Recently, the two have gotten together with just a codesharing agreement.

This agreement allows ITA ‘AZ’ flight codes to be used on Etihad’s flights to 5 Italian cities of flights to (Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa) and the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi).

Reciprocally. Etihad’s “EY” code can be used for passengers to connect to 5 Italian cities using Genoa, Bari, Brindisi, Catania, Palermo as well as Malta, which utilize Rome Fiumicino airport as a destination from Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

Tickets are being sold thru each other’s websites.
