On Sunday 1 November, Chiara, Giuseppe, Claudio and Calogero will run in the Big Apple carrying the name of the International Artisanal Gelato Festival, returning to Palermo from 13 to 16 November for its 18th edition.
Sherbeth is heading to the New York City Marathon. On Sunday 1 November 2026, four Sicilians will take on the famous race wearing shirts dedicated to the International Artisanal Gelato Festival, carrying their connection to their homeland across the Atlantic and celebrating an event that brings gelato cultures from around the world to Palermo. The runners are Chiara, a pharmacist, and her husband Giuseppe Morando, a dentist, alongside Claudio Merlino, a lawyer, and Calogero Caruana, who works in consumer credit with Findomestic. Four different professional backgrounds, united by a passion for running and the decision to share this experience with Sherbeth’s name on their shirts.
Over the marathon’s 42.195 kilometers, those shirts will serve as a reminder of Sicily and its artisanal gelato culture to the streets of New York: a heritage of skills, ingredients, and stories that crosses borders and generations.
The four Sicilians’ participation comes just days before the opening of the 18th edition of Sherbeth, taking place from 13 to 16 November 2026 in Piazza Verdi, Palermo. The festival will bring together 60 master gelato makers from five continents, alongside chefs, researchers and industry professionals, for four days of tastings, talks and discussion about the present and future of artisanal gelato.
At the heart of this edition is the Contemporary Artisanal Gelato vision, which connects traditional expertise, scientific research, technical innovation, and new ways to enjoy gelato, while celebrating its place in Italian food culture and its dialogue with the world.
Before the festival opens in Palermo, Chiara, Giuseppe, Claudio and Calogero will bring Sherbeth to an international stage along the New York City Marathon route. Alongside their running shoes, they have chosen to pack a piece of their home island.
