When The World Stopped; a poem by Claudia Lorenzetti Martins

When The World Stopped

When the world stopped
I could breathe clean air again

When the world stopped
The birds were chanting in ecstasy

When the world stopped
The silence invaded my ears with a high peak sound

When the world stopped
The pain and the grief was measured by numbers

When the world stopped
What was certain became uncertain

When the world stopped
Politicians ‘played God’ and the virus ‘played Evil’

When the world stopped
Angels helping the sick became superheroes

When the world stopped
Time was overwhelmingly slow

When the world stopped
Time was never enough to save a life

When the world stopped
Words of anger and tears destroyed families and friendships

When the world stopped
We were left alone to die
