The work
Created by Marino Marini in 1955 , the sculpture Idea Knight is part of a complex of five different works devoted to the same subject. The representation of the combination of horse / rider performs a constant interest in the production of Marini. Starting from the first processing , 1935 , the artist returned several times on the issue giving rise , over the years , in a tight sequence of sculptures and paintings. Founded as a rhetorical investigation around the viability of the millenary tradition of monumental figure on horseback , the series is imposed in the context of the history of Italian sculpture of the twentieth century as reasoning about structural forms of sculpture. Interpreted by critics for the most part in an existential , insisting on the assumption of a hardening of the composition following the experience of the tragic war , the work is placed within a compelling dialogue with the contemporary world .
How he was able to point out the Marino Marini in 1958 , ” when you consider one after the other my equestrian statues of these last twelve years , it is observed whenever the rider is unable to tame the horse and the beast , in his distress more and more wild , it becomes more rigid , instead of rearing up. I believe seriously that we are going towards the end of the world. ”
