ITA Airways is trying to do its best to give itself a raised visibility in the ashes of Alitalia’s wake and they believe they’ve found it—by naming their all-Airbus fleet with Italian sports stars. The “Naming Azzuri” promotion is being run with Italian sports news outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport thru its Instagram and Facebook accounts with input by the general public until mid-February.
A statement by Giovanni Perosino, the Chief Marketing Officer of ITA Airways released this statement: “The first names of the Airbuses have been decided by the company, but now the ball is in the court of our followers, who will have to nominate the Italian female and male sports champions to whom the next ITA Airways aircraft will be dedicated.”
The rule is basically is that the champions must no longer be retired or deceased with the entry with the highest number of votes.
Currently, their A320 and A319 planes that have already been named are the ones named after Paolo Rossi, Fausto Coppi, while the one Airbus A319 is dedicated to Pietro Mennea.
