L’Italia brilla all’European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) 2025, tenutasi a Pristina (dall’11 al 17 aprile scorsi, con una prestazione storica: tre medaglie d’oro e una d’argento (a un solo punto dall’oro) e il primo posto nella classifica ufficiale riservata alle squadre europee. Con questo risultato, la squadra italiana è la vincitrice dell’EGMO 2025. Nella classifica assoluta – che include anche squadre ospiti da tutto il mondo – l’Italia si è piazzata quarta, dietro a Cina, Stati Uniti e Australia, distaccata di un solo punto dal podio.
La squadra italiana era composta da: Anna Kazhamiakina del Liceo Galilei di Trento (terza con 32 punti su 42, medaglia d’oro), Barbara Catino del Liceo Volta di Milano e Giulia Comini del Liceo Calini di Brescia (28 punti, seste a pari merito, medaglie d’oro), Matilde Iannaccone del Liceo Dini di Pisa (26 punti, quattordicesima a pari merito, medaglia d’argento).
Tutte e quattro le concorrenti italiane si sono classificate tra le prime quindici partecipanti europee.
Le matlete Catino e Iannaccone avevano conquistato la medaglia d’argento all’EGMO 2024, mentre Comini aveva ottenuto la medaglia di bronzo, a conferma di un percorso di crescita e continuità ai massimi livelli. Il team era accompagnato da Veronica Sacchi (Leader) e Daria Pasqualetti (Deputy Leader), che hanno preso parte alle intense giornate di coordination per l’assegnazione dei punteggi.
Due delle quattro matlete italiane – Kazhamiakina (in seconda superiore) e Catino (in quarta superiore) – potranno partecipare anche alla prossima edizione, offrendo ottime prospettive per il futuro.
L’EGMO è una competizione internazionale riservata a giovani matematiche, con la stessa struttura delle Olimpiadi Internazionali della Matematica, a cui partecipano ogni anno squadre ufficiali da tutta Europa e, come ospiti, squadre da numerosi altri paesi del mondo.
La squadra italiana è stata selezionata e preparata dalla Commissione Olimpiadi dell’Unione Matematica Italiana. Le ragazze hanno partecipato a numerosi stage di preparazione in Italia e all’estero. (aise)
Italy shines at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) 2025, held in Pristina (Kosovo) from 11 to 17 April, with a historic performance: three gold medals and one silver (just one point from gold) and first place in the official ranking reserved for European teams. With this result, the Italian team has won EGMO 2025. In the overall standings, which also includes guest teams from all over the world, Italy finished fourth, behind China, the United States, and Australia, just one point behind the podium. The Italian team was composed of: Anna Kazhamiakina from the Galilei High School in Trento (third with 32 points out of 42, gold medal), Barbara Catino from the Volta High School in Milan and Giulia Comini from the Calini High School in Brescia (28 points, tied for sixth, gold medals), Matilde Iannaccone from the Dini High School in Pisa (26 points, tied fourteenth, silver medal).
All four Italian competitors ranked among the top fifteen European participants.
The Mathlete Catino and Iannaccone had won the silver medal at the EGMO 2024, while Comini had obtained the bronze medal, confirming a path of growth and continuity at the highest levels. The team was accompanied by Veronica Sacchi (Leader) and Daria Pasqualetti (Deputy Leader), who participated in the intense days of coordination for assigning scores. Two of the four Italian athletes, Kazhamiakina (in the second year of high school) and Catino (in the fourth year of high school), will also be able to participate in the next edition, offering excellent prospects for the future. The EGMO is an international competition reserved for young mathematicians, with a structure similar to that of the International Mathematical Olympiad. Official teams from all over Europe participate every year, and as guests, teams from numerous other countries around the world are also invited. The Italian team was selected and prepared by the Olympiad Commission of the Italian Mathematical Union. The girls participated in numerous preparatory internships in Italy and abroad. (aise)
