Knights and Dames of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy recently attended the 15th Annual Saint Lazarus Mass and dinner in New York, in memory of King Umberto II, of Savoia. Mass was celebrated at the imposing Church of St. Jean Baptiste.
At a private dinner, Cav. Dr. Gilda Battaglia Rorro Baldassari, Honorary Vice Consul for Italy, in Trenton, Emerita, was seated next to the grandson of King Umberto II, HRH Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia. The prince is related to each of the eleven reigning royal families in Europe. He is a quintessential royal with vast expertise in law, languages, jewelry design and gemology.
Both guests enjoyed discussing their books: Gilda, Promise Me, is Gilda’s memoir. Prince Dimitri’s work titled Once upon a Diamond, will be published in September 2020, by Rizzoli. It provides fascinating, never-before revealed anecdotes and photos regarding his illustrious family history, love of precious gems, and his own creations.
