La bellezza delle orchidee è stata rappresentata in gioielleria in una collezione di spille create dal disegnatore di gioielli George Paulding Farnham per Tiffany Company. Nel 1889 nella Esposizione Universale di Parigi, Paulding Farnham esibì una serie di spille orchidee a grandezza naturale. Farnham aveva fatto studi di botanica sulle forme e i colori dei fiori: rose, iris, ortensie, edelweiss, specialmente sulla varietà di specie di orchidee, portando l’arte della gioielleria floreale ad un livello di naturalismo.
I fiori erano smaltati su dell’oro e abbelliti con varie gemme: diamanti, rubini, smeraldi, acquamarine, perle, creando delle scintillanti tonalità sui petali delle orchidee. “Orchidea spilla smaltata in giallo con diamante” i cui petali erano decorati e smaltati in giallo e arancione con sepali arricciati di un giallo oro e sfumature arancioni supportati da un diamante taglio rosa. “Art nouveau in giallo oro, smalto policromo, diamante e smeraldo, Calanthe veitchii ” mostra petali arricciati del fiore giallo oro, accentuati dal smalto rosa, porpora, giallo, arancio con diamante. “Orchidea spilla smaltata con rubino e diamante“ mostra petali bianchi con tonalità lavanda, il centro incastonato di diamanti taglio rosa e uno stelo di rubino taglio cuscino montato in oro. Un altro splendido gioiello è “Vintage orchidea cattleya, spilla in cristalli di quarzo e diamante” di Lang Antique, presenta i grandi petali brinati di una cattleya illuminati dai cristalli e diamanti a taglio brillante rotondo.
Tra il 18esimo e il 19esimo secolo le spille “en tremblant” stile art deco molto di moda, avevano il centro del fiore attaccato ad un meccanismo che creava movimento nel gioiello quando veniva indossato, le spille montate con diamanti e cristalli riflettevano la luce scintillante. Le spille floreali sono state realizzate da molti altri artisti, Marcel Boucher disegnatore di una gioielleria che riflette classiche e nuove tendenze creative e Alfred Philippe per la Trifari Company prestigiosa marca americana di gioielleria che dagli anni trenta ha prodotto esclusivi modelli per i musicals di Broadway e rappresentazioni teatrali. Le spille sono ancora un accessorio di stile negli anni cinquanta e sessanta, belle creazioni di fiori in gioielleria si trovano nelle collezioni di Van Cleef & Arpels e in “Caresse d’Orchidées di Cartier”. Nel “Botanica Blue Book 2022 Collection” le orchidee e altre varietà floreali sono state presentate in una nuova serie di gioielli: braccialetti, collane, spille, anelli, orecchini da Tiffany & C. La bellezza delle orchidee è descritta in una leggenda che dice: “Fiore di gioia, l’orchidea nacque dai pezzi del primo arcobaleno che cadde sulla terra, in brillanti e multi colorati pezzi. E in un istante ognuno dei frammenti si è trasformato in una bella orchidea”. Con naturalezza le orchidee mostrano il loro fascino esotico e l’eleganza sofisticata anche nell’arte dei gioielli.

The beauty of orchids has been represented in a collection of brooches created by the jewelry designer George Paulding Farnham for Tiffany Company. At the 1889 Paris World Fair Paulding Farnham exhibited a set of life-sized orchid pins. Farnham made many botanical studies about shapes and colors of the flowers: roses, irises, hydrangeas, edelweiss, especially the variety of orchid species, bringing the floral jewelry art to a level of naturalism. The flowers were enameled on gold and embellished with various gemstones: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, aquamarines, pearls, creating sparkling shades on the petals of the orchids. “Yellow gold enamel, and diamond orchid brooch” the petals are decorated in yellow and faint orange enamel, with curled sepals of yellow gold and orange hues, supported by rose-cut diamonds. “Art nouveau yellow gold, polychrome enamel, diamond and emerald, Calanthe veitchii” shows curled petals of the yellow gold blossom accented with pink, purple, yellow and orange enamel with a diamond, “Enamel ruby and diamond orchid brooch” shows white petals with lavender hues, the center set with rose-cut diamonds, and a cushion-cut ruby stem mounted in gold. Another splendid jewel is “Vintage cattleya orchid carved rock crystal and diamond brooch” by Lang Antique, the large and frosted petals of a cattleya are brightened by crystals and round, brilliant cut diamonds. Between 18th and 19th century, some types of brooches “en tremblant” art deco style very fashionable, had the center of the flower attached to a mechanism that created movement in the jewel when worn; the brooches mounted with diamonds and crystals reflected the sparkling light. Floral pins have been realized in jewels by many other artists, Marcel Boucher designer of a jewel reflects classical and new creative trends and Alfred Philippe for Trifari Company, a prestigious American brand jewelry that since the Thirties worked in the creation of exclusive models for musicals on Broadway and theater performances.
Brooches are still a stylish accessory in the Fifties and Sixties, beautiful creations of flowers in jewelry are found in the collections by Van Cleef & Arpels and in “Caresse d’orchidées de Cartier”. In the “Botanica Blue Book 2022 Collection”, orchids and other floral varieties have been featured in a new series of jewels: bracelets, necklaces, brooches, rings, earrings by Tiffany & C. The beauty of orchids is described in a legend that says: ”Flower of joy, the orchid born of the pieces of the first rainbow who fell onto the ground, with sparkling in the sun shimmering multi-colored pieces. And each of the fragments in an instant turned into a beautiful orchid. Naturally, orchids also show their exotic charm and the sophisticated elegance in the jewelry art.
