on June 23rd from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Join us on Thursday, June 23rd at our non-profit building for a free event featuring our guest speaker Dr. Gaetano Cipolla. It is going to be an enjoyable evening with food, wine, desserts, and refreshments starting at 6:00 pm followed by a discussion with Dr. Gaetano Cipolla at 7:00 pm. Dr. Cipolla will be speaking about the history of the Sicilian language as well as introducing his new textbook, Learn Sicilian II. Dr. Cipolla will speak about his organization, Arba Sicula, and give us some insights into what drove him to preserve the Sicilian language and its importance. This is a great opportunity for to be able to meet Dr. Cipolla and ask questions. There will also be copies of Learn Sicilian II and Learn Sicilian/Mparamu Lu Sicilianu and other books available to purchase and have them personally signed by Dr. Cipolla.
Dr. Cipolla is Professor Emeritus at St. John’s University and President and Editor of Arba Sicula, an international organization that promotes the Sicilian language and culture. Dr. Cipolla is a renowned authority on the Sicilian language as he has taken the lead in promoting and publishing modern literature in the Sicilian language. His textbook, Learn Sicilian/Mparamu Lu Sicilianu has sold thousands of copies (now in its 4th publication), to so many Sicilians around the world seeking to learn the language of their ancestors and to be closely connected to their roots.
Italian Charities of America thanks Dr. Cipolla for taking the worldwide lead in this mission of promoting and preserving the Sicilian language and culture. We have been using Dr. Cipolla’s textbook in teaching our Sicilian language courses since Sicilian language courses were first organized by Italian Charities of America’s President, Domenic Giampino in 2009. Italian Charities of America holds the world record in the modern era for teaching the Sicilian language in formal courses in a classroom setting and is now also available virtually.
