Review by Tiziano Thomas Dossena
This marvelous story by Patricia Edick aims to restore confidence in children whenever they feel uncertain about who they are and what they want to be or do in life…
The story unravels from the doubts a dog has about its essence. The main character constantly dreams of being a cat and doing what cats do, and dogs don’t, such as climbing trees. He nevertheless lives his life normally, having a lady dog as a partner and becoming a father, joyfully. After a few years, feeling old, he starts to think that maybe his dreams were meant to tell him he was supposed to be a cat, and, doubting himself, he decides to explore the world for an answer.
After an interesting trek, he realizes that you are what you are, but having desires to be something else is not wrong and should not be chastised, also because other people may feel that way too. At the end of the story, the message is that people love you for what you are, and having doubts is a normal part of life.
Beautifully illustrated by Marinella Sorino, the story is uplifting and meaningful and will be loved by children and adults.
“Once upon a time, in a land that no one knew, there lived a dog who thought that he may be a cat. He tried to be a dog because he looked like a dog, but he sometimes felt more like a cat. In his dreams…”
