Among the initiatives of GLAAD, The Alert Desk is an important resource created to face the rise in anti–LGBTQ hate: “This tool allows us to prioritize LGBTQ specific incidents for journalists, ensuring our stories remain part of the mainstream conversation while equipping local media and reporters with the insights they need to cover our community accurately and effectively. GLAAD’s Alert Desk is dedicated to telling the stories that often go unreported by the media and uninvestigated by law enforcement, and to raising concerns about the attacks, which have increased with the Trump administration.”
The Alert Desk identifies anti–LGBTQ incidents through self-reports, media reports, social media posts, and data sharing from collaborative organizations. The team works to ensure the validity and accuracy of all incidents, including cross-source referencing, removing trolling attempts, and identifying data matches across sources.
Expanding initiatives like Equity in Entertainment to create authentic LGBTQ characters and storytelling in film and theatre.
The video campaign “Here we are” amplifies the authentic voices of transgender people offering their real stories.
The President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis says: “Americans should refuse to accept a country where our neighbors fear for their safety. With Alert Desk data showing an increase in violence against LGBTQ people, especially transgender Americans, we must join together in a united call against the violence and harassment that too many LGBTQ Americans face. Instead of growing divides that lead to this violence, politicians should recognize that all Americans deserve freedom, fairness and safety”.
“For most of my life, I hid who I was — Stephen Lewis, GLAAD supporter donor, tells me — a man trapped inside of a vessel that did not feel like my own home. I think if you are reading this, you may understand this to some degree: wanting to feel as though you belong, or as though you are a part of something that does not make you feel so isolated and ostracized. We are part of something, an alliance that has been strengthened by the acceptance of one another. This community is one place where gender does not matter, where race is not discriminated against, where we can all exist safely without the worry of being harmed or the worry of being misunderstood. Sadly, this is not the case in the larger world we live in. Where living and age are where drag queens are more threatening to our children than guns… Where in Florida parents of transgender children could have their children taken away from them simply because they are accepting of who their children are…For us, this isn’t politics; it’s personal. Laws like these strip us of protection and make us more vulnerable. Being persecuted by our own lawmakers, robbing us of basic freedoms and the right simply to be who we are, creates a climate of fear”.
Transgender people experience more aggression than cisgender people; we must stop these crimes, fighting with strength and awareness, and refusing to give up, in order to create a world where everyone can live in mutual respect and in the love of a true life.

Tra le iniziative di Glaad, The Alert Desk è un’importante risorsa creata per affrontare l’aumento dell’odio verso la Comunità LGBTQ “lo strumento ci consente di dare priorità agli incidenti specifici riguardanti la comunità LGBTQ per i giornalisti, garantendo che le nostre storie rimangano il centro del dibattito pubblico e fornendo al contempo ai media locali e ai reporter le informazioni necessarie per raccontare la nostra comunità in modo accurato ed efficace. Glaad’s Alert Desk racconta le storie che spesso non sono riportate dai media o non investigate dalla legge e le aggressioni-LGBT che sono aumentate con il governo Trump”. 
The Alert Desk individua le situazioni anti-LGBTQ attraverso segnalazioni dirette, notizie dai media, posts su social network e la condivisione dei dati da parte di organizzazioni che collaborano. Il team lavora per garantire la validità e l’accuratezza di tutte le segnalazioni, verificando la corrispondenza dei dati tra le diverse fonti. Eliminando tentativi di trolling, mantenendo una corretta raccolta dei dati.
Ampliare iniziative come Equità nell’Intrattenimento per aumentare la rappresentazione autentica dei personaggi e delle narrazioni LGBTQ nel cinema e nel teatro.
La campagna video “Here we are” mette in luce le autentiche voci di persone transgender che raccontano le proprie storie.
Il Presidente & Ceo, Sarah Kate Ellis ha detto: “Gli americani dovrebbero rifiutarsi di accettare un Paese in cui i nostri vicini temono per la propria sicurezza. Con Alert Desk, che segnala un aumento della violenza contro le persone LGBTQ, in particolare gli americani transgender, dobbiamo unirci in un appello comune contro la violenza e le molestie che troppi americani LGBTQ si trovano ad affrontare. Invece di alimentare le divisioni che portano a questa violenza, i politici dovrebbero riconoscere che tutti gli americani meritano libertà, equità e sicurezza”.
“Per gran parte della mia vita ho nascosto chi ero — mi racconta Stephen Lewis, sostenitore e donatore di Glaad — un uomo intrappolato in un involucro che non sentivo come casa mia. Credo che se stai leggendo questo, tu possa comprenderlo fino a un certo punto: voler sentire di appartenere a qualcosa o di farne parte, senza sentirsi così isolati ed emarginati. Facciamo parte di qualcosa, un’alleanza rafforzata dall’accettazione reciproca. Questa comunità è un luogo in cui il genere non conta e non si subiscono discriminazioni basate sulla razza, un luogo in cui tutti possiamo vivere in sicurezza, senza il timore di subire danni o di essere fraintesi. Purtroppo, nel mondo in cui viviamo, la situazione è ben diversa, viviamo in un’epoca in cui le drag queen rappresentano una minaccia maggiore per i nostri figli rispetto alle armi da fuoco. In Florida, i genitori transgender con figli potrebbero vederseli togliere semplicemente perché accettano la loro identità… Per noi non si tratta di politica ma di una questione personale; leggi come queste ci privano di tutele e ci rendono più vulnerabili. Essere perseguitati dai nostri stessi legislatori, privati delle libertà fondamentali e del diritto di essere semplicemente noi stessi, crea un clima di paura”.
Le persone transgender subiscono maggiori aggressioni rispetto alle persone cisgender. Dobbiamo fermare questi crimini, combattendo con forza e consapevolezza, senza arrendersi, per realizzare un mondo in cui ognuno possa vivere nel rispetto reciproco e nell’amore di una vera vita.
