Guided by her Italian roots and rich folk traditions, the 27-year-old multilingual vocalist, record producer, and doctor is taking pop music to a stirring dance-floor release this year.
Pushing her unique sonic agenda more distinctly and daringly than ever before, the multidimensional artist has released her new dance-pop single “Que Me Ha Pasado,” which follows her breakthrough hit single, ‘But Without You,’ released last year. With her new infatuation-themed song, Janalynn continues to define her distinct voice and genre-bending style.
Castelino’s 2023 poignant interpretation of the spellbinding folk song “Bella Ci Dormi” offers a haunting romantic ballad steeped in Southern Italian folklore, drawing listeners across continents and inner landscapes alike. Her voice captures the raw intensity of the much-loved folk song as she traces the story of unrequited love and longing for a connection with the beloved. The visualizer garnered over a million views across YouTube.
Her 2024 crossover Spanish-language debut single, “Drama,” glows with vulnerability, grabbing attention with infectious upbeat energy, as the song dives into extravagant dramatization in a relationship, sharing the message of ditching a toxic one.
“But Without You,” her hit single from 2025, co-written with Lorna, showcases her strong vocal range throughout a 3-minute track, highlighting the need and the struggle to reconcile. Recorded in English, the single gives a sense of getting back on track and rekindling affection for a hopeful end.
Backed with refulgent songwriting, the Latin-inspired dance track, encompassed by impulsive beats and propelling synths, finds Janalynn’s vocal powerhouse as the gravitational core, drawing listeners deeper into the song’s thematic terrain that dances freely between confession and infatuation. The chorus, built with belting vocals and Latin rhythms, gives the song its resonance. Lyrically, the song moves through the stages of infatuation and its complexities
Janalynn Castelino is influenced by the emotional lyricism of Sicilian melodies and their magnetic folk music that have shaped her personal approach to songwriting. Since childhood, she has had a lifelong obsession with music, especially singing. This hobby led her to pursue a recording career even though she’s a qualified doctor who studied at the University of Michigan Medicine. Castelino regards her father, Joseph, as her motivational pillar, who himself excelled in engineering studies and athletics but later transitioned to a successful business and political career. He encouraged her to follow her passion and work arduously toward her goal, but to complete her education first, just as he had. Janalynn, a practicing Roman Catholic, credits her roots and faith with playing a crucial role in developing her comprehensive perspective.
