Jazz Meets Hip Hop in New York

Jazz Meets Hip Hop, Francesco Cavestri

Friday, May 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM

ICI-NY Conference Room

Pianist, composer, and producer Francesco Cavestri returns to New York with a concert at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura. He is joined by two young New York–based talents from the international scene: Mattia Muller on drums and Joav Ganor on bass, both alumni of the Berklee College of Music.

The trio becomes a space for sonic exploration where jazz, electronic music, and hip-hop interact freely: Ganor’s bass, both melodic and percussive, intertwines with the aesthetics of beatmaking, while Muller—through his rhythmic sensitivity and deep knowledge of contemporary American drumming trends—creates fertile ground for free improvisation and timbral experimentation.

The concert is part of a broader framework of artistic relations between Italy and the United States. Cavestri’s jazz engages with American urban culture and its electronic legacy, in a dynamic cultural exchange that renews the long-standing tradition of jazz as a global language, capable of evolving through cross-genre influences. The performance demonstrates how contemporary Italian music can speak the language of the present without losing its identity.
