Italian American Tries To Save Milan’s San Siro Soccer Stadium From the Wrecking Ball

By Joseph M. Calisi

The San Siro soccer stadium in Milan Italy is scheduled to be destroyed after Inter-Milan and Milan football clubs have concluded the building of their new shared stadium in Milan, Italy, which will hold tens of thousands of patrons at one time. The stadium has a covering as opposed to a dome to cover the fan seating area as well as the playing field.

The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium (nicknamed San Siro) is officially named after the former Inter-Milan soccer great.

Bruce Springsteen’s guitarist Stevie Van Zant, is the Italian American to lead the charge to save the soccer stadium palace. “We must save San Siro, We have built enough skyscrapers and shopping malls in the world,” tweeted Van Zandt, “but there is only one San Siro!” His statement was retweeted by the Sì Meazza Committee that’s trying to save the arena.

San Siro is the scene where many of many championship soccer matches have been played, including the 1990 World Cup and European championships as well as Italian Serie A first division matches.
