GALLERIA/GALLERY
Emilio Giuseppe Dossena painted a variety of contrasting landscapes in the ’30s, ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s: from the soft valleys of Umbria to the centuries-old trees of Lombardy, from the cliffs of Liguria to the mountain huts of Piedmont, from the gypsy caravans to the camp of circus companies. Through his brushstrokes, we saw the world as if through his eyes. At the end of the ’60s, he moved to Brooklyn, where his art evolved from a Neo-Impressionist to a Neo-Expressionist style. With his new paintings, he achieved considerable success in his exhibitions in New York, working also as a restorer for various organizations, among which the Metropolitan Museum stands out.
His works returned to New York for a historic exhibition at the Eastchester Public Library (NY), a tribute to this Italian artist who lived a few years in New York and loved it deeply.
The public of this charming Westchester town appreciated the artist’s works and took an interest in his life, asking various questions to the artist’s son, Tiziano Thomas Dossena. On the afternoon of Sunday, October 20th, Dossena presented a brief history of the magazine L’Idea Magazine right in the gallery’s headquarters, and the public stayed for a long time to admire the works even after the presentation.
